Senior Citizens and Seniors Win in Haskell Senior Night

Haskell Women’s basketball defeated Hesston Feb. 11, 86-57, on Senior Night. Haskell honored seven seniors: Ona Dauphinais, Ivy Fox, Tierzah Penn, Ciahna Oatman, Chehalis Aleck, Angela Astorga, and Tea Murray.

The game opened as a close contest, with Haskell trailing 16–15 at the end of the first quarter. Dauphinais led the scoring charge with 6 points, breathing life into the team. Murray had gone down with an injury early in the game and was helped back to the locker room but came back to the bench early in the second quarter.

Haskell pulled away in the second quarter, going into halftime with a 41-28 lead, with Haskell’s largest lead being 15 points. Murray entered back into the game late in the quarter and scored a quick 5 points. Fox carried the load for the second quarter, leading the team with 12 points.

During halftime, Grandmas took the court to play their style of basketball. It was the pink socks versus the teal socks, which was a fun game to watch and had a final score of 14-6. Pink socks dominated much of the game with a 12-2 which was off the nasty pick-and-roll duo that accounted for 10 of the total points. The crowd yelled “Grandma down” after 05 fell.

In the third quarter, Haskell widened the gap, getting a 20-point lead at the end of the quarter. A team effort on both ends of the court helped the lead balloon. Jayla Flient came off the bench and kept up the energy, scoring 6 in the quarter.

Haskell kept pushing and scoring, getting their already outrageous lead up to 29 for their biggest lead of the game to win 86-57. Dauphinais and Fox led the team, both scoring 18 points in what was their final regular-season home game. Penn, Aleck, Astorga, and Murray contributed their share to the final score in their final home game.
