Haskell Varsity Softball played in a scrimmage against the KC Rebel, an 18U team from Kansas City. Haskell beat the Rebels 9-3 in game one and then 6-3 in game two.
Game one started with Haskell getting a quick lead off of Kristin Holuby and Abrielle Herrera each earning two runs. Ariana Munoz, Abrianna Herrera, Kenna GoodVoice, Tishyla Allen, and Elaina Shield contributed with a run each helping their pitchers Kaitlyn Tso and Minnie Tsosie earn the 9-3 win.
Game two saw some early offense with two runs, one being a home run, and three hits coming from Holuby, a freshman, recorded three hits and continued to show why she could be a player to watch heading into the upcoming season. Tso, Abrianna Herrera, Abrielle Herrera, and Thena Lee all contributed a run helping Tso and Jessica Harrah secure the 6-3 win.
Abrielle Herrera on the new players, “We’ve had a lot of practice, so we talk to each other, and we tell each other no matter where you are just talk. That’s the biggest thing we focus on, constantly talking.”
She continued on the Veteran’s presence, “The ones who’ve been here, we just teach them, just telling them how we go, and they catch on pretty easily.”
Haskell softball will finish off their fall schedule back at home Oct. 3 for the Softball Showcase.
Abrielle Herrera on what this game told her about the team, “We got our fundamentals down, it’s just learning our lineups.” She continued on the play shown from the team, “Our players are very versatile, a lot of utility, so it’s finding where to put them and learning to mesh together”
Stat leaders from the scrimmage were Houlby with one home run, four hits and 7 total bases, Allen with two doubles, Munoz with one triple, Shield with two RBI’s, Mashta Little cook with three bases on balls and Tso with 14 strike outs.
