LAWRENCE, Kansas — Haskell Indian Nations University welcomed students back to campus Wednesday with a convocation focused on unity, strength and community. The event, held Sept. 17 in Haskell Auditorium, featured remarks from Interim President Mackie Moore and Student Government Association President Angel Elizarraras. Miss Haskell Angelina Giago offered an opening prayer, and Haskell Brave Rickson Bull Calf gave the closing prayer.

Speakers encouraged students to stay committed to their studies and reminded them that challenges are easier to overcome when faced together.
“We are strongest when we stand together,” Moore said, urging students to lean on and support each other throughout the semester.

Following the program, students gathered for a watermelon feed hosted by the Office of the President.

The afternoon ended with laughter, food and connection. A reminder that community support is vital for academic success.
