Almost Over

Haskell Indian Nations University played the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis over the weekend in a four-game series. Haskell lost three in a row before ending the weekend series with a win.

The first game started off in Haskell’s favor as they took a two-run lead in the first inning with a Grace Greenwood line drive, scoring Ariana Munoz to start the game, and then Abrianna Herrera scored Greenwood to end the inning up 2-0. Nothing would happen until the fourth inning when UHSP hit a two-run home run to tie the game, but Haskell would respond in the bottom of the inning when a Chasely Roberts double scored Mariah Graves to end the inning up 3-2.

The fifth inning would see UHSP hit a home run and take the lead in the sixth inning, 3-6. Haskell would try to respond in the seventh inning with Tishyla Allen scoring MaeShayla Tye, but that’d be the last run as Haskell would lose 4-6.

The second game was a pitchers’ duel as Haskell would go without a run for the whole game, but UHSP would only score four runs the whole game, which is the fifth game Haskell has held the opposing team to 4 or fewer runs. UHSP scored 3 of their runs in the third inning, and then they scored their last run in the 4th inning. Haskell would lose 0-4 to end their Saturday winless and have a chip on their shoulder for the next day.

Haskell would start off their Sunday by nearly getting run-ruled for the 22nd time this year. UHSP would combine for eight runs in the third and fourth innings, and Haskell could not surmount a comeback, losing the first game 2-11.

The last game of the weekend for Haskell would be a more positive one, but they would start the game off down two, but they’d come back in the bottom of the first. Greenwood would start the scoring with a double, scoring Munoz, Abrianna Herrera would swap places with Greenwood, and to end the inning, Roberts would score Abrianna Herrera to end the first 3-2. Nothing would happen in the second inning, but Allen would find her way home with Abrianna Herrera getting her home, upping the lead 4-2.

It would be a silent next three innings until Haskell would strike in the bottom of the sixth with Paizley Aldrich scoring Abrianna Herrera and Jadean Headbird bunting in Mecca Goldsberry. UHSP would try to respond in the seventh inning, but Haskell would win 6-4. Haskell now sits at 7-27 with a chance at its first 10-win season since 2009.
