Staying active has always been significant to maintaining health and building relationships with others. In the Fall 2024 semester, Tecumseh gym was closed for inspections, causing students to be unable to use the gym. All Nations Fitness began as a way for students to play the sports they want and socialize with other students.
Open to all students, All Nations Fitness is a no-pressure club in Tecumseh that students can participate in, where they can go to and enjoy any number of activities. Students can choose what they want to do, whether basketball or volleyball, and it’s entirely up to them.
Speaking with the Organizer Lovey Fire Lightning (Oglala Lakota), a fitness coach and veteran attending Haskell, she helps get the equipment and supervises the activities during the period. Fire Lightning had experienced the effects of the pandemic with the gyms closing or having restrictions making it difficult to stay fit, and the gym, she had to be creative about how to work out.
Fire Lightning started CrossFit in the military, and she was inspired by the results. She worked on becoming a fitness coach so she could still participate in activities centering on her career and maintain her pursuit of the degree she wanted. When Tecumseh was deemed okay to use in the gymnasium, All Nations Fitness was born.
All Nations Fitness fills the gap when the weather doesn’t permit playing on the courts outside of OK Hall or students want a second spot to hang out and be active after class. They are open Monday to Friday, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, so give it a try!
