Hello everyone! I greet you all with a warm heart. My name is Allison Levering, and I’m a 20-year-old sophomore at Haskell Indian Nations University, pursuing a degree in Media Communications with a focus on journalism. I plan to continue my education in American Indian Studies to deepen my understanding of our histories and advocate for Indian country through storytelling.
I belong to the Bear Clan of the Winnebago (Ho-Chunk) and Omaha Tribes of Nebraska, and I’m honored to serve as the President of the Haskell Indian Leader newspaper. I also help lead “The Haskell Hour” radio show at Kansas University. In addition to my club responsibilities and academic pursuits, I am the Co-Captain of the Haskell Cheer Squad and a student ambassador for the Fall 2024 season. I am grateful for these opportunities to make my tracks here at HINU.
In my free time, I enjoy creating art through seamstry and beadwork, and I love to dance as a Jingle Dress dancer at powwows on the weekends. I also produce music as a hobby. Through my media and storytelling, I hope to inspire others on their journey of cultural reconnection and mentor those interested in all forms of journalism.
