By Travis Tafolla

On November 3rd, 2023, the Haskell Men’s Cross Country team received 1st place in the 2023 Continental Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. Finishing in first place, Runner of the Year, Jaiven Hale (Junior), completed the course with a time of 26.35. In 2nd place, Dyami Berridge (Freshman) finished in 26.42. In 5th place, runner Jonathan Fragua (Junior) finished in 28.10. These 3 men received First-Team All-Conference Honors.

Here’s what Jonathan Fragua had to say after his race, “I think I came in 5th individually. I felt really strong the whole way. I didn’t feel my very best but you just have to go out there and give it all that you got. I was just trying to run with a big heart in this race. I’m proud of everyone who came out here to compete. It was a good race. We’re going to Vancouver baby!”

In 6th place, Jaylan Mc-Coy Bark (Freshman) completed his race with a time of 28.13. Finally, Burton Miner III (Freshman), receiving 8th place, finished in 28.43. Jaylan and Burt received Second-Team All-Conference Honors. Freshman Anthony Lossiah, whom we got to interview, finished the course in 18th place, with a time of 30.19. On the other hand, the Haskell Women’s Cross Country team will only have two runners left to compete. One of them was Kiara Ironheart (Sophomore), who received runner of the year and Conference Champion for placing first this past weekend. Ironheart finished the race in 22 minutes and 7 seconds. Placing 3rd in the women’s race, Tiajae Nez (Junior) finished in 23 minutes and 19 seconds. On November 17th, the Haskell Indians will travel to Vancouver, Washington, to compete in the NAIA National Cross Country Championship.
