The Student Activities Department hosted its semesterly Highlight Night at Coffin Complex on March 4, providing a source of connection and discovery for HINU students. The evening showcases a vast selection of organizations within the gymnasium, ranging from on-campus departments and clubs to groups local to Lawrence and academic partnerships with the University of Kansas.
The evening was vibrant, with the surplus of students gathered and clubs bustling in excitement as they sought out potential members. It’s an ideal opportunity for sanctioned and non-sanctioned clubs to meet students with similar goals and interests. Whether that’s an academic-based club such as the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), or hobbies such as book club, Warrior Nations Boxing Club, and art club.
Students also have the opportunity to connect with religious and cultural groups both on and off campus. Organizations such as the local church, Lawrence United Methodist, had a table set up alongside the on-campus Diné club, one of the many tribal clubs on campus.
There are also several other student-led clubs based in community and competition. Allies of Equality, a club advocating for queer and two-spirit HINU students; Empow-her-ing Minds, a club for Indigenous Women to connect based on leadership and independence; the American Indian Higher Education Consortium chapter (AIHEC) was also present as well, which met consecutively until their conference and gives students the chance to compete in a wide array of competitions.
Departments such as Financial Aid, Student Activities, and The Haskell Greenhouse are also available to students interested in their resources. Haskell Highlight Night 2025 had an abundance of organizations that were not mentioned, which shows the overflowing potential for personal growth and academic opportunities.
