Brandon Colbert (Muscogee Creek/Seminole)
Writer, Photographer, Media Enthusiast
Hensci estonko? (Hello, how are you?) My name is Brandon Colbert, and I am a sophomore at Haskell Indian Nations University. I am proud to hail from Eufaula, Oklahoma, representing the Muscogee Creek and Seminole tribes, and I belong to the Nokose (Bear) clan.
Since freshman year, I’ve contributed to The Indian Leader newspaper, channeling my creativity into writing poetry, capturing photos, and producing video content. Whether it’s highlighting campus events or bringing unique perspectives to life, storytelling through media has become a major passion of mine.
I’m majoring in Media Communications, with dreams of creating films and sitcoms that reflect authentic Indigenous stories and broader experiences. Alongside my academic pursuits, I’m also involved with “Haskell Hour” on 90.7 KJHK, the University of Kansas radio station, where I go by the name DJ Snag. Being on the radio is another way to share my love for media, connect with listeners, and experiment with sound.
In my free time, you’ll often find me outdoors, exploring the natural beauty around Lawrence with my camera in hand or relaxing at home, enjoying a good movie, TV show, or video game on my PlayStation 5. I’m always trying to balance creativity and study, constantly looking for ways to learn more and push myself artistically.
Whether through words, images, or sound, I aim to tell stories that resonate and inspire.
Mvto (Thank You),
Brandon Colbert
