Haskell Varsity Volleyball played the Bethel Threshers Sept. 15 and lost in three sets. Haskell seemed competitive in the first and third set but lost in set two setting the tone of the game.
Haskell opened up going down 0-5 and would score their first points off of a Mya Dalgai kill and block. Haskell would tie it up eight times after that, eventually losing a close set at 21-25.
Haskell would start set two down 0-7, then take a timeout and finally score on a Jaspen Ellenwood kill to make it 1-8. The set wouldn’t go much better as they would eventually lose by 15 with the final score being 10-25.
Sandra St. Clair explained how they mentally approached set three, “We wanted it more, we know we could’ve done a lot better than the last set”, she continued on what they were thinking, “so that third set we wanted to push ourselves even harder to do the best we know that we could do.”
St. Clair on what was discussed in-between set two and three, “We didn’t do horrible, we just got stuck in our rotation and there’s not a lot you can do about it other than letting it go and just looking forward to the next set.”
Haskell would start set three with a lead off an Ellenwood kill that would quickly get lost in a close battle. The set would tie three times before Haskell called a timeout at 13-14. Out of the timeout Haskell would never tie it up as they’d already used their second timeout eventually losing the set 19-25 and the game 0-3.
Haskell will play the McPherson Bulldogs Sept 16. in Coffin at 7 p.m. Haskell can only hope to bounce back from the loss as this now makes them .500 at home.
Stat leaders for the match were Dalgai with eight kills, Jayla Flient with one ace, Hailey Kelsey with three blocks, Darrilyn Tessay with 11 assists, and Brianna Mitchell with five digs.
