On Nov. 20, 2025, The Haskell Greenhouse organized a campus clean up where volunteer students and Lawrence community members could come and walk the campus with trash bags and pick-up sticks and collect trash. The Haskell Greenhouse does a lot of work around campus beyond clean-up efforts and is currently hiring students for work-study positions. The students were instructed on problem areas to walk through and see what they could gather, usually high student and public traffic areas. Students walked through Roe Cloud and Blalock parking lots picking up cans, trash and items of clothing while listening to their music and helping make the campus a cleaner place. In total, students gathered more than 100 lbs of trash from all over campus during the clean-up. Volunteers also compared findings from different parts of campus and all came back with varying amounts of trash in their bags. Students and community members should always feel a personal responsibility to pick up after themselves wherever they go and respect where they live, and this effort is a strong step in the right direction to help work towards that goal.
