It Waits Beyond the Tree Line

By: Brandon Colbert

Don’t know what it is, or what it could be

But does it wait for me

I can feel it staring, it’s eyes glaring

It circles the grounds, while lurking around

Heavy breath, is the only sound

Never comes out of the trees

But I know it watches me

Day and night it waits, it’s presents feels of hate

It seems to never leave, crouching in the leaves

The breathing makes me feel uneasy

The trembling of my knees, when I go get water from the stream

Chasing me home, when I try to roam

May never know what it is, or why it waits

Some day I’ll be brave and tempt my fate

For it waits for me beyond the tree line

Sending chills down my spine

Blood on the Shell Shaker

By: Brandon Colbert

As children we were always told

Not to wander into the cold

Bas as children we’re curious

Makes the elders furious

In the dead of night

We hear a scream of fright

Elders still dancing and singing

But from the scream our ears still ringing

A scream so loud

That it parted the clouds

The moon so bright

Still something wasn’t right

We ask our elders

Only to say, don’t worry, were sheltered

Moring came and gave a peace of mind

But for one girl the tribe could not find

Elders searching around the grounds

Listening for any sounds

Children speak of the screams

Saying they weren’t as they seem

Elders go deeper into the woods

Vut what they found was not good

Everyone in quell and shaking

For there was blood on the shell shaker.

Glow of the Moon

By: Brandon Colbert

Glow of the moon, beautiful as the loon

Praying I can be with her soon

Her beautiful glow, makes my heart grow

So radiant and vibrant, I can’t deny it

Beauty so bright, she lights up the night

She shines like the stars, and she’s not very far

She has my thoughts going to war

Every time I see her, I want to hold her

Reaching out to only grab air, doesn’t seem fair

We could be a great pair, where others can’t compare

For I will always be there, because I care

Forgive me if I stare, but I love how you’re rare

Your beautiful gleam, on a midnight stream

The glows you beam upon me,

Always seems to take me to ecstasy

You are my drug, that high from above

So release the doves, for I’ve been blessed from above

God gave me word, through a little bird

She that holds my heart, will never depart

Every time I see her I swoon

For she carries the glow of the moon.
