Summer Fashion Show with Apache Selections and Haskell Students

This summer, Crush Model Studio hosted a fashion show in Lawrence, Kansas, and had various designers showcase their creations. Among them were Haskell students who served as models for some of the designers, including Apache Selections, which also appeared in the Haskell fashion show of Spring 2025.

In the Crush Studio fashion show, there were designers such as Nokota Styles, Apache Selections, Devil Doll, and Crush Model Studios. The categories were different styles that were the focus and influence of each designer. Apache Selections had done the Black Swan line that was influenced by the Black Swan movie by Darren Aronofsky, and she had Haskell students, De’Ara Dosela, Jenna Curtis, Evangeline Avila, Ava Thompson, Garret Elliott, and others present her outfits with professionalism and confidence.

The outfits were strong, stunning, and full of life, and each model personified the outfit’s characteristics of those of a ballet dancer, where the black swan is a confident, sharply moving entity, and the white swan is a gentle, more timid, and less commanding figure. Then, once every designer presented, there was an intermission where the designers worked quickly to help the models change and get them ready for the next showing while the crowd explored vendors’ tables and products.

One of the models, Jenna Curtis, said she enjoyed the backstage team environment where models helped each other with their hair and makeup when they had time. In the second showing, the theme for Apache Selections was Powwow Garden Party. There was a change in personality and character and design, with many having a diverse palette of colors, with ethereal dresses and ribbon skirts, and suits with lighter fabric and color. De’Ara Dosela noted that she loved getting dressed for the walk and the preparations for it.

“You have such an amazing feeling, and you’re very proud of it,“ shared Dosela, “I get to show who I am in a 40-second walk.”

The event was a tremendous success, and speaking with a few of the models, they enjoyed walking and feeling the weight lift off their shoulders as they had the culmination event at the end, with all the designers and others coming on stage.

Evangeline Avila shared, “There is something so intimate about being able to walk in the physical manifestation of someone’s creative spirit and technical ability.”

The show exemplified how much the designers worked and the way the models were able to give every outfit life and breath. So be on the lookout for them again as they are always actively modeling for different events and will be again soon!
