On December 14, 2024, the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas will host an exciting Native fashion event at the campus in Lawrence. The event will run from 4 to 6 p.m., with doors opening at 3 p.m. at 1301 Mississippi Street Lawrence, KS 66045. This event is part of the Native Fashion exhibition at the Spencer Museum, which runs from September 1, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
The power of fashion as a medium can be channeled through self-expression. Individuals use it to demonstrate their personality, expose interests, and embrace cultural identity. It can reveal not only who we are but also what province we come from, often weaving together threads of tradition, heritage, and creativity. At this exciting event, more than 11 Native fashion designers will converge and, in doing so, highlight the unique intersection where art, culture, and style meet. These talented designers will display their creative fashions on live models parading down the runway–more than 50 Native models have been engaged to bring them to life for us.
For those wanting to browse after the show, there is an open market venue where various Native entrepreneurs and designers will sell their work–offering everyone who comes out the chance to look at and connect with creators and perhaps even take home a piece of Indigenous artistry.
This event is free, but tickets are required for entry; the event promises to be a lively presentation of the talent, creativity, and ongoing world of Native fashion. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to see Indian beauty in all its great forms!
