Meet The Club: Emmalee J. Fields

Osiyo and Salam Alaikum, hello, and peace be upon you! I am a first-generation college student studying for my bachelor’s degree in Indigenous and American Indian Studies, with an associate’s in Media Communication. With these degrees, I hope to make my way into the Bureau of Indian Affairs one day and represent my people nationally to create even more opportunities for us and Indian Country.

I am currently a reporter for the Indian Leader, with three articles under my belt and many more to come. Along with being the Indian Leader, I am also secretary for the EmpowHERing Minds Club and I plan to become a student ambassador for the spring ’24 semester.

It is an honor to hail from the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Through the reconnecting journey that I am currently on, I have learned even more about my ancestral language and traditional ways. In my day-to-day life, you can mostly find me in the library, as I love to journal, listen to music and color, and I love to go on walks around campus. I currently work outside of school as well, and while being a full-time student and worker is a lot to juggle at times, I believe it will all be worth it in the end.

Please feel free to contact me about any news or collaboration ideas you may have or if you want to talk, as I am here for the Haskell community. I have found true belonging here at Haskell, with many good friends and amazing opportunities, and through my work, I will represent this campus well and make you all very proud! Wado, donadagohvi! (Thank you, until we meet again).
