The BIPOC event for Haskell was two days filled with many affluent, generous, and wise individuals and speakers from all over the country. Many students and staff came to listen and network with each other and get more information about the programs available.
After the main messages and speakers, the main event broke into smaller sessions that were a bit more individually tailored for the specific topic that was to be discussed. In the breakout sessions, there were speakers talking about social media marketing, LLC for a business, and registering one’s business with the government. On the second day, there was a breakout session for small business banking and loans from the SBA.
On the second day of the BIPOC event, there was a signing event early in the morning with Dr. Arpan, Mackie Moore, and the head director of Kansas SBA. The signing was an agreement with the SBA and Haskell to strengthen their relationship together and provide more opportunities to students as well. These opportunities include the SBA holding office hours on campus, developing partnerships with grants, and providing more resources, as well as building a small business development center on the campus, which will be open to students and the public. The small business center will give students more opportunities for internships, help them build business plans, and provide many other business services.
Mackie Moore, the Dean of the School of Business for Haskell, said, “I am excited to help see this and help bring it in. This signing will help with building and bringing more people to Haskell as well as help build the community in Lawrence and provide students with more tools to take back to their communities.”
