Haskell Indian Nations University is set to honor the traditions of Indigenous ancestors with a welcome back Powwow for the Spring semester.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Haskell’s Coffin Sports Complex, 155 Indian Ave Lawrence, KS. Grand Entry will begin at 6 p.m. This year’s Head Man is Dyami Berridge, Winnebago, and the Head Lady is Kansas Clifford, Oglala Lakota.
During this event hosted by Haskell Indian Nations University, there will be various events, including student giveaways, dance contests, specials, and grand entry. Attendees can join in for dancing, food, music, and tradition during this event. In the past, those who attended also had the opportunity to look at vendor booths for a variety of items, including, but not limited to, beaded jewelry, ribbon skirts, traditional foods, and t-shirts.
When asked what she looked forward to the most during the Powwow, Haskell student Sophia Boldwarrior said, “Definitely the food, the vibes, and seeing happy, chubby native babies.”
