Haskell writers are set to read their original poetry and fiction in what is hoped to become a recurring event for each semester’s Creative Writing class.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place 7 p.m. Friday Dec. 1 at S&S Artisan Pub and Coffeehouse, 2228 Iowa St. Lawrence, KS.
“It’s something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but I think one of the students brought it up first; then everyone kind of nodded and said, ‘That’s a good idea.’” said Creative Writing instructor Leah Sewell when asked what prompted the event.
During this event hosted by Sewell and her Creative Writing students, there will be a variety of original works of fiction, poetry and short stories. S&S Pub will also have food and drinks available to purchase while attendees enjoy the event.
When asked why they are hosting this event, writing student Erika Romero said, “I don’t really know why we’re doing it; I know it’s just for fun. For a lot of people, it’s just to get our work out; I know [Sewell] invited a lot of the past creative writing students, so I hope it’s a big turnout.”
